abstract

polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (pahs) have been determined in the atmosphere of isfahan, iran. airborne particulate matter was sampled using a high-volume air sampler at roof-top level (~6m). extraction of pahs from airborne particulate matter has been performed using sfe system and the relationship between the extraction temperature and the recovery of pahs from airborne particulates is investigated. determination of 16 pahs has been carried out by gc-ms technique. variation in concentration of pahs has been compared to those for organic carbon and total suspended particles (tsp). a good agreement was found between the variation in concentration of pahs and that for organic carbon, but weak correlation (p=0.6, r2=0.42) was found to exist between the pahs and tsp

Particulate Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Urban Air of Tehran

Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons are ubiquitous in the urban atmosphere and one of the most atmospheric pollutants to be identified as suspected carcinogens .The objective of this study was to compare particulate PAH profiles from several sites across Tehran. Atmospheric concentrations of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Tehran were evaluated to study particulate PAH profiles in different si...

Particle associated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in urban air of Agra

Total suspended particulate matter (TSPM) samples were collected at Nunhai, Agra from May 2006 to September 2006. Since polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are known carcinogenic and mutagenic, concentrations of 16 PAHs in aerosols were quantified in the present paper. The dominating PAHs in TSPM include high molecular weight Benzo(ghi)Perylene, dibenzo(b)anthracene, indeno(123cd) pyrene, b...

Determination of particle-associated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in urban air of Beijing by GC/MS.

Particle-associated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) collected in urban air of Beijing were studied using a gas chromatograph mass spectrometer (GC/MS). The average concentration of particle-associated PAHs measured in this work was in the range from 28.53 to 362.15 ng/m3, which suggested a serious pollution level of PAHs in Beijing. The results also showed that the concentration of PAHs...

Assessment of Reliability when Using Diagnostic Binary Ratios of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Ambient Air PM10.

The reliability of using diagnostic binary ratios of particulate carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) as chemical tracers for source characterisation was assessed by collecting PM10 samples from various air quality observatory sites in Thailand. The major objectives of this research were to evaluate the effects of day and night on the alterations of six different PAH diagnostic ...

A simple methodological validation of the gas/particle fractionation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in ambient air

The analysis of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) in ambient air requires the tedious experimental steps of both sampling and pretreatment (e.g., extraction or clean-up). To replace pre-existing conventional methods, a simple, rapid, and novel technique was developed to measure gas-particle fractionation of PAH in ambient air based on 'sorbent tube-thermal desorption-gas chromatograph-mass...
